AIDA World Water Law Congress 2026: Scholarship Awardees

The AIDA Congress Scholarship Awards Committee has finalized its selection and chosen the following outstanding individuals to receive scholarships to attend the AIDA World Water Law Congress: 



Kabine Doumbia, Mali

  • Executive Director of Appui Solidaire pour le Renforcement de l’Aide au Développement (ASRAD Mali), an ECOSOC-accredited civil society organization based in Mali.
  • Executive Director of Appui Solidaire pour le Renforcement de l’Aide au Développement (ASRAD Mali), an ECOSOC-accredited civil society organization based in Mali.
  • Holds a Master’s degree in International Comparative Environmental Law and has over fifteen years of professional experience working on environmental governance, water management, and legal empowerment in the Sahel region.
  • Presenting at the AIDA Congress: “Community-Based Water Governance and Legal Empowerment in the Sahel: A Case for Integrating Customary and Formal Water Law in Mali”.
  • Recently defended her PhD suma cum laude at the University of Geneva, Switzerland.
  • Currently a legal consultant with the Niger Basin – Iullemeden-Taoudeni/Tanezrouft Aquifer System; formerly State Counsel with the Federal Government of Nigeria, serving in the Federal Ministry of Water Resources.
  • Presenting at the Congress: “Right and Access to Water and Sanitation: Extent of Recognition within West Africa Water Regimes”.

Yusuf Ali, Ethiopia

  • PhD candidate in international law at Anadolu University, Türkiye, specializing in international watercourses law and human rights law. His ongoing doctoral research aims to critically examine the normative and operational interplay between transboundary watercourse law and international human rights obligations, particularly from global, major regional and watercourse basin perspectives
  • Presenting at the AIDA Congress: “The imperative of international human rights to ensure “vital human needs” in transboundary watercourses”.
  • The independent AIDA Congress Scholarship Awards Committee — composed of Stefano Burchi (Chair), Marcella Nanni, Laura Movilla Pateiro, and Lilian Laborde — carefully reviewed all applications based on established criteria. The number and amount of the scholarships were determined in relation to the sponsorship funds received to support this program.
